Jennie Jerene Murrah (1923 - 1974)
Jennie Jerene Murrah was born January 30, 1923 in Iowa Park,
Texas near the oil fields of north central Texas. She preferred
the name Jerene. At the age of 2 1/2 years the family moved to
a farm in Bailey County, Texas where she grew up while
attending school at Muleshoe. Jerene never married and lived at
home until the death of her mother, Eva, in 1971. She worked as
a housekeeper and, at times, for the local drive-in theater for
many years.
Jerene was an avid collector of colored glass and other
breakable objects which she displayed in her bedroom. Of
course, this room was off-limits to the little hands of her nieces
and nephews making it even more enticing to explore there.
Following a lifetime of multiple illnesses beginning at age 5,
Jerene died in Muleshoe at the age of 51 on June 16, 1974. She
is buried along-side her parents at the Bailey County Cemetery.
