Audeen's parents, Tom and Callie Smith, were born in separate Northcentral Texas counties; however, the two towns are only a few miles apart. Tom was born December 5, 1891 in Perrin, Jack County and Callie was born February 8, 1898 in Whitt, Parker County. They were married in Perrin on January 4, 1914 and resided there until after the first two children, Marie (11/21/14) and Audeen (1/12/16), were born and then relocated to Hale Center in Hale County north of Lubbock near the town of Plainview. The other two children, Ruby (6/6/19) and Joe (6/8/21), were born there.

In 1924 the young family pushed further west to the Black Water Valley area of Bailey County and moved into a small farm house near the Black Water Draw and about seven miles from West Camp. The children attended elementary school in West Camp and then Farwell in adjacent Parmer County for secondary school. The Dailys farmed on the same section of land north of the Smiths and the Hogans farmed four miles east. Audeen Smith, Ada Hogan and Maxine Daily eventually married the oldest three Murrah sons, Dalton, Gordon and Claudis, respectively.

Tom and Callie remained in Bailey County for the rest of their lives. Tom died July 24, 1973 and Callie at the age of 100 died March 10, 1998. They are buried in the Bailey County Cemetery north east of Progress.
